Cyclosporin Neuroprotection: Maas BiolAB's Australian patent.
Honolulu May 3, 2000. Maas BiolAB, LLC received patent No. 712974 from the Australia Patent Office for cyclosporin neuroprotection. Australia joins New Zealand in giving protection in the Antipodes. Patent has already been granted in the U.S.A. and ARIPO/Africa, with Canada recently having given Notice of Allowance. The Cyclosporin Neuroprotection patent covers the acute indications of stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, and the neurodegenerative diseases of Alzheimer's, Down's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, and ALS. "If human data confirms animal experiments then people will be helped by what we believe will be the very first clinically effective neuroprotectant, cyclosporin." said Scientific Director Eskil Elmér, Ph.D. "We are in parallel and serial discussions on several fronts, and continents to expediciously bring a medicine to patients that will stop their neurons from dying." said Marcus Keep M.D. Chief Executive Officer.
