Dr. Elmér is neuroscientist, researcher and associate professor at the Experimental Brain Research Laboratory, Wallenberg Neuroscience Center, University of Lund, Sweden. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Lund University, where he discovered cyclosporin neuroprotection. A post-doctoral year in Hawaii included further research into mitochondrial neuroprotection. His current research is focused on neuroprotective mitochondrial effects of cyclosporin-A and its non-immunosuppressive analogs. Other areas of research include mechanisms of epileptogenesis, neurotrophic factors, and neural transplantation.
